Hard Drive not detected in BIOS
I have a 20 GB Maxtor IDE hard drive that I salvaged from an old computer.
I pronounced the PSU dead (see Generic Power Supply), but I thought the hard drive may be salvageable. I plugged it into my computer under the following conditions: SATA HD (Plugged into SATA 1) CD-RW plugged into IDE channel as Master (jumpered to Cable select) Known working 4-pin power connector 1. Plugged 20 GB Maxtor into IDE cable, jumpered to master — Computer froze before BIOS 2. Changed jumper to Slave — Computer froze before BIOS 3. Changed jumper to Cable Select — BIOS doesn't read Hard Drive (just the CD-RW) Unplugging the CD-RW, I changed IDE cables at the same time. I left the CD-RW unplugged: 1. Jumpered to master — froze before BIOS 2. Jumpered to slave — froze before BIOS 3. Jumpered to cable select — Nothing detected in BIOS Changing computers, I plugged the hard drive into a known working IDE cable and 4-pin power connector. The drive was still jumpered to cable select, and was not detected in the BIOS. Any opinions? |

Sounds like the drive is dead.
