Chipset fan size - A8N SLI Deluxe
Alas, my chipset fan has finally stopped working (as I had thought was going to happen). Sadly, ASUS is being a pain to work with and they have (over two weeks now) been of no help. So, with my father traveling within the US, I am to purchase a chipset fan on my own rather than try to get a replacement from ASUS.
I opened the case and took some measurements. It appears the the cooling apparatus is around 36 mm * 36 mm. However, it looks like a fan of up to 41mm can fit into the space between my two video cards. If anyone has replaced the chipset fan on their A8N SLI Deluxe, what size fan did you use? The name of the fan used would be great also - just telling the size to my dad doesn't mean he will locate one which will work. TIA, Ryan

Provided there is a way to attach any old fan, a 40mm fan sounds like it would fit the bill. That's what most chipset fans are.

Alright, thanks. I'll try to see if I can get my dad to bring one back. Any old 40mm one will do for now, just as long as it works and doesn't squel (sp?) like this one.

I've been reading a lot about these chipset fans in the last hour, I have a buddy with one that went bad just a few days ago, havn't had time until now to start looking at it. A lot of people are using Zalman passive heatsinks rather than fans. They say you can find them from $5 to $12, depending on wether you use the internet or the local computer store.
We purchased the motherboard in Feb of 2005, so I don't expect Asus to be of much help. All I care about is that the heatsink will fit with 2 6800 Ultra's.

Ryan, do you have a high tolerance for noise? Or do you have a fan controller? If so I would suggest these.
They are counter rotating fans. Superb airflow characteristics and have very high static pressure. http://mpja.com/directview.asp?product=15838+FN Run at 5-7volts Or (not counter rotating) http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/de40ff1.html <--- Much quieter. If you prefer something more mainstream.. http://www.jab-tech.com/Sunon-40x40x...1-pr-1943.html http://www.svc.com/40x20fans.html Or anything of the such from your favorite store. Edit: Just reread, your having someone bringing one for you, so nevermind.

Thanks for the suggestions. Getting one actually fell through... (my motherboard and harddrives got zapped and aren't working anyways)... I'm replacing both in the next few weeks.
