CPU Fan for Athlon64 3500
Afternoon all
A mate of mine ordered a 3500 but didn't realise it was an OEM version therefore he will obvioulsy have to purchase a fan for it. He therefore asked me ( ) to find one for him.......now I tend to buy my CPU's retail which obviously included the HSF so wouldn't really now what makes a good fan (well obvioulsy it has to cool it down for starters so I know that much!).I was looking at initailly the Artic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro Freezer 64 Pro - has anyone had any experience with this? Also would it be a good idea to purchase some Thermal Compound rather than just use the bit that comes on the cooler (further on from that would it be a good idea to stick some on the HSF that comes as Retail with the CPU). If so what should I be looking for? thanks for your help |

I would probably use something from Zalman or Thermalright (need to supply your own fan for these). I'm sure that one would work fine.
If the cooler comes with paste or a pad you could probably just use that.

The pad that comes on the heatsink, either the retail HSF or one purchased seperatly, is the best amount of paste to cool the chip. I wouldnt add any more - adding to much insulates the heat.
If a pad is included on the heatsink you plan to buy, I'd say save your money - you don't need extra thermal compound. |
