Our family was getting tired of the noisy stock fan that came with our Dell Deminsion 3000. It had a feature that adjusted the fan speed (and therefore noise) based on temperatures. It was a 90mm/92mm (not sure which) fan. See best link that I could find:here. Do you think that this will be a sufficient replacement? I am currently running the computer with the "replacement" fan with custom measured (using an outdoor thermometer) exhauast temps of 27C/80F (5F above room temp) while browsing the Net and (checking gaming temp now, will edit when found). The motherboard attachment is not compatible with my motherboard, so I am currently running it off a molex connector. Is this safe? If the fan fails, will the system still shut itself off, or will it overheat and blow up in my face? In case it wasn't clear, this is the only case fan, it cools the processor and case. Please let me know how the temps are, if you think this fan will be a good replacement, and if a molex processor fan connection is safe.
***Edit: I forgot to mention that this is a P4 3.0Ghz w/ HT, 800Mhz FSB system. I am currently running folding@home and task manager says its using about 50% of the CPU, and the exaust temp is 31C/86F; RCT3 gave me similar temps.
