Whole bunch of HDDs to clean
Hi,
I have a whole bunch of HDs that need to be wiped clean. THese are old HDs less that 10 GB in size that need to be clean before we give them away. Do you have any suggestions as to what's the most efficient way of doing this? some are installed in old pc's that won't boot for various reasons.... missing parts...etc. THerefore, I'll probably need to remove the HD's from the cases.

Use DBAN or the Ultimate Boot CD, they have hard drive wiping utilities.

Only problem with the USB to IDE cable is you can't use DOS-based utilities such as DBAN to wipe drives. All you can do is use Windows utilities. I have a test bench - a motherboard out of the case - that I can rig up to do this. Hook up a drive and a CD or floppy drive, boot with the utility CD or floppy, and wipe away.

But if the hard drive is in an external housing connected to the PC by USB then you won't be able to use the DOS based zero-fill utilities. Cricket
