HDD not recognized by Windows CD
I am replacing a failed primary drive on a Dell Dimension 8400 (Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160GB SATA150 HDD) with a Western Digital WD2000JD (200GB SATA150) from Newegg. The BIOS seems to see it just fine and I have run the WD Data Lifeguard DOS tools (from floppy) so that I can partition it (limited to 137GB NTFS).
My problem is that the Windows XP Home Edition CD won't recognize the HDD. It says it can't find one and forces a reboot. What am I missing? |

Hmmm. It seems that the Western Digital partitioning tool default settings are the issue:
They apply a default partition size of 137 GB (allegedly for compatibility), however when I used the advanced manual overide to force it to the full 200GB NTFS partition...miraculously all is well and Windows can find the drive. FYI. Corporal Carrot. |

Why did you use the WD software at all? I never use it, I partition with the Windows CD as part of Setup.
