A simple fan question

I saw the answer to this somewhere but can't locate it now:
My front and rear fans on my Thermaltake Tsunami aren't running but I can start them
up by prodding them with a finger. I have the automatic controller disabled in the BIOS so they should be running at full speed all the time, correct???

Depends...are they thermostatically controlled fans? Have you noticed them starting up after the computer has been on for awhile?

If they never start to spin without any help from you then I'd say they're defective.

I used some other connections from the PSU and they are working fine now. They are also running at a higher RPM which is good too.
Thanks,
Chris

I bet you were using an Antec PSU and the 'Fan Only' connectors (or something similar)...those supply voltage to the fans according to the temperature of the PSU...so the voltage might be too low for the fan to start. I've got some fans like that with my Antec PSU.

You are so correct. I connected the small fan on the side of the case to my Antec's fan only connection and the others to regular power connectors. I'm now getting temps between 45 and 57 degrees depending on how much I'm running Photoshop CS2. The system is a week old and temps seem to have dropped a bit. I'm running a Pentium D 930.

Those are pretty good temps for a Dual-core Intel. The faster fans would help move the hot air out of the system... Also, BIOS can only control the fans if they are powered through the motherboard, not directly through the power supply connectors.
