Angry Problems installing SATA HDD

This is my first build, everything seemed to be going OK until I tried to partition and format the hard drive.

I will be using XP Home so as advised set the boot sequence to CD ROM and put in the Windows XP Disk, so far so good, then after selecting the option to format the HDD the following message appeared onscreen:
'Please wait while setup formats the partition C: Partition1 [unknown] 238465 MB <238464 MB free> on 238473 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi [MBR]'

Then after it completes the formatting procedure (about 90 minutes) displays
'Setup was unable to format the partition. The disk may be damaged'

I then tried to delete the partition and try again, displays
'unable to access partition'
it goes on to say that there seems to be a problem with the following files 'setupdd.sys PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA'

I tried using Seagate's Diskwizard on floppy but it said that it couldn't format the HDD either.

So now I do not know what to do.

Suggestions welcome!

Send a message via MSN to doctorgonzo
Download the drive diagnostic software from Seagate's website to test the drive.

The Seagate Diagnostic Software indicated that the drive was faulty with serious errors. I logged onto Seagate's returns system, which is really good, within minutes I had an RMA number to return the drive to them, which I did and within 5 days a replacement drive arrived, 300Gb! I only returned 250Gb.

Now works fine, thanks for the advice.
