Is anyone familiar with PC Power & Cooling CPU cooler differences?
I have a dead system that I'm trying to replace ASAP. I currently have my PC P&C CPU-Cool Z1-HS on an AMD K6-3/450. My new board will be Socket A with a Duron 850. Will that fan work w/ Socket A as well or is the Z1-D that they list for Socket A the only one that will work? I thought it might be the same fan but w/ different clips or something... Thanks for any help... |

You will need to buy a different heatsink/fan for the SocketA CPU. Spend the money and get a good one, the new AMD's put out some serious heat. Here is a link to a comparison of 46 different CPU coolers:

Hi SVTarHeel,
I agree with mc2phat, don't re-use the HSF from the K6-3. It was designed to handle the heat generated by the earlier CPU's, not the kind of heat the AMD T-Birds can produce. There are a number of good HSF's available now. Pick a good one, it'll help you avoid heat related problems later on. Does your current case have good cooling? Something to keep an eye on too.
