Upgrade
I would like to upgrade my CPU but I am not sure how far I can. I will provide my specs. Can soneone please tell what else I would need to upgrade, how much do you think all of this would cost, and if it is even worth it. Can someone please let me know?
Thank you. --------[ EVEREST Home Edition (c) 2003-2005 Lavalys, Inc. ]------------------------------------------------------------ Version EVEREST v2.20.405 Homepage http://www.lavalys.com/ Report Type Report Wizard Computer MOE (Unknown User) Generator vze2fc3k Operating System Microsoft Windows 98 SE 4.10.2222A (Win98 SE) Date 2006-05-26 Time 11:17 --------[ Summary ]----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Computer: Operating System Microsoft Windows 98 SE OS Service Pack - DirectX 4.07.00.0700 (DirectX 7.0) Computer Name MOE (Unknown User) User Name vze2fc3k Motherboard: CPU Type AMD K6-2, 500 MHz (5 x 100) Motherboard Name Compaq Compaq PC Motherboard Chipset VIA VT8501 Apollo MVP4 System Memory 311 MB (SDRAM) BIOS Type Compaq (07/25/00) Communication Port Communications Port (COM1) Communication Port ECP Printer Port (LPT1) Display: Video Adapter Trident Blade3D/MVP4 (63) (8 MB) 3D Accelerator Trident Blade3D i7 Monitor Dell D1025TM [17" CRT] (55341CECN8B8) Multimedia: Audio Adapter ESS Technology Allegro-1.COMM AudioDrive Storage: IDE Controller Primary IDE controller (dual fifo) IDE Controller Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo) IDE Controller VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller Floppy Drive GENERIC NEC FLOPPY DISK Disk Drive GENERIC IDE DISK TYPE01 Optical Drive COMPAQ SC-140S (40x CD-ROM) SMART Hard Disks Status Unknown Partitions: C: (FAT32) 7618 MB (5176 MB free) D: (FAT32) 1901 MB (141 MB free) Total Size 9519 MB (5317 MB free) Input: Keyboard Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard Mouse WheelMouse1 (PS/2) Network: Network Adapter Linksys LNE100TX(v5) Fast Ethernet Adapter NDIS5 Driver (192.168.15.102) Network Adapter PPP Adapter. It's not worth it. That computer is many generations old; it's not going to be useful for anything other than web surfing and e-mail. Definitely no gaming.

It would cost more than a new computer.

Any CPU you find that would go in there wouldn't be much faster. I doubt it would cost more than a new computer, but a new computer would be money spent more wisely. In short, any upgrades won't be cost effective.
