Installing Windows XP......but xp doesn't see my SATA drive???

The drive I have is a Hitachi Deskstar part #HDS722516VLSA80
iT WAS IN THE COMPUTER BEFORE i FORMATED IT AND NOW WINDOWS WONT SEE IT....PARTITION MAGIC STILL SEES IT AND i CAN FORMAT AND PARTITION IT BUT WHEN i START THE INSTILLATION IT SAYS WINDOWS CANNOT FIND A hdd CONECTED

pLEASE HELP

It sounds very much like your SATA controller isn't native to your motherboard, which means you'll need drivers. They will have come on a floppy disc with your board, but if you don't have the disc you can download the drivers from your motherboard manufacturer's website.

Very early on during the install process, you'll be prompted to "press F6 to specify additional devices". Do this, and setup will prompt you for the driver floppy disc before continuing to the next step. Once loaded, setup should find your drive.

The computer is a brand new sony desktop system. The drive is the one that came with it. When I go into CMOS or partition magic it can be seen. It even knows there is 160 gb on it. But only windows doesn't see it. where could i find downloads for these disks. sony gives you nothing with the computer

Why are you reformatting a brand new name brand prebuilt computer? Sony gives you nothing because it's preloaded.
