Cmos problem
I managed to find out a problem on a pc
- mobo EP 4GLM+ I was fixing where the date was 1/1/2002. Everytime after turning the pc on, the date would revert back, and there is a warning says that the CPU speed is incorrect - problem with the BIOS. So I just changed the battery and then then turn on the pc but the problem is still there. Even after resetting everything, and once the pc was off and on again, all the settings have to be recalibrated in the BIOS. Worse still there is static electricity, or the pc failed to restart, and I can see some weird artifacts at the letters displayed. So in the end I used the original battery and just leave the pc like that. Does anyone know what is the problem? It is the BIOS, that I am sure, but then even after changing new battery the problem is still there. Maybe the memory is not stored? I have resigned from fixing the pc |

Clean the CMOS battery contacts on the MB with a soft eraser, followed by 90% pure alcohol and a soft cloth. If the problem persists, then the BIOS chip may be bad.

Make sure the clear cmos jumper is in the correct position. It sounds like it's in the clear position.

The problem was not there before, so I suspect that the jumper was not in the clear position. The contact is quite clean.
