Welcome to PCMech. Power Supplies are key. Get a high quality brand, such as Antec, Enermax, Fortron Source, or PC Power & Cooling. If you are wanting another graphics card in the future to run in tandem, then you have to get everything SLI-capable. That means a certified SLI PSU and a motherboard that is SLI-ready. ASUS is a solid motherboard manufacturer. Check out one of their SLI boards.

You don't need a heatsink, the retail processor comes with one. Very good power supply, but not SLI-certified. It's fine with a single 7600GT - and why not save some serious bucks and get an A8N5X or A8N-E?

i was gonna get a heatsink for the cpu cause i wanted to overclock it. should i go with the AMD Operton 144 and just over clock it with my mobo? Cause i heard it overclocks like crazy and the mobo has an AI over clocking feature .
overheating isnt a prob with good cooling, i don care how loud my fans will be..

and whats a A8N5X and a A8N-E?
what is a good sli certified PSU?

Your list looks fine for now.

If you are planning on buying another video card later to use SLI, you will need an SLI certifed power supply. This Antec would be a good fit: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103931

If you are not planning on using SLI, you can use the 500 PSU that you chose. You can also save money buying a motherboard without SLI. The Asus A8N5X is a great choice : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131569

I'd suggest not going with SLI either. Depending on how long you wait for that second card...they may not make it any more. I wouldn't mess with overclocking - getting serious about it can get real expensive real quick (premium RAM, power supply, etc).

The AMD 3500+ runs like an equivalent Intel 3.5 GHz, so I'd take blue's advice and hold off on overclocking. Your processor is plenty fast.

Asus may be great & Antec is very nice. But---

I have an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo and an Antec TruePower 2.0 550w EPS12V psu. I had & am still having problems with the initial connectors. Specifically the EZ_PLUG. I can't find anything from the PS. There is not enough info for the noob to go on. I have called and written to Antec with no solution to this dilema. I wrote to Asus two days ago (31 May) and have yet to hear from them. So can anyone help me?

I admire all you younger folks who appear to grasp these problems and come up with the proper solutions. My 67 year old brain doesn't work as well as it did.

My rig in progress:

Case: Antec Sonata II (removed PSU not SLI compatible)
PSU: Antec Truepower 2.0 55OW EPS12V
Mobo: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
CPU: Athlon AMD 64 3200+ (weak point)
RAM: Kingston 1GB Twin Sticks

Planning to get twin 6600GT Video Cards; Floppy - Mitsumi USB2.0 & FDD Digital card reader;
Hard Drive (next purchase) - Seagate 250GB 7200RPM ( model # not handy); Opitcal Drive is still not decided on but am thinking of the Pioneer DVR(dual-layer).

I am adding this after more reading in the forum:

I maybe should have started a new thread for this question. My apologies to any and all who maybe offended.

Hi, confused. Welcome to PCMech. Yes, it's best to start a new thread on an issue. Maybe cut and paste what you've written above, but be more specific with which plugs you're having diffiuculty with, and what the exact diffiiculty is. People will be more likely to see and answer your question in a new thread. Your build choices look good... I'm certain there's a solution.
