I've seen DDR 600 (PC4800) for sale at Newegg. 600MHz within the RAM itself, 300MHz FSB speed.

OK, so what would be a good 'ordinary' speed? The RAM (2x 512mb - I'd need to restart to check actual speed) in my current PC is quite slow and I'm buying for a new PC so I'm trying to find a good average speed.
The new PC is for university (college) study and so far will have;

CPU: Celeron D 3Ghz Socket 775
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-8VT880P COMBO
HDD: Western Digital 120GB 7200RPM PATA
RAM: At least 1GB (speed undecided)
GPU: Undecided (looking at a 256MB ATI Radeon X600 variant)
TUNER: Compro DVB-T300

I don't want to spend more than US$100 each on the GPU or RAM.

As you can see, I've got a HD TV Tuner. Is it a reasonable expectation that this will run comfortably? It's currently in my old PC and it has quite a bit of lag when changing channels...
I also have Battlefield 2, and while I don't care too much about graphics, it runs fairly poorly on my current 128MB GeForce FX5200TD.

Any Ideas?

hey gerodan, I also play BF2 and I have a Pentium 4 2.8E with a ATI X850pro 256MB system and if I have all the eye candy on it does get a bit choppy during game play. The celeron CPU you have there is not an ideal gaming chip. If you want to stick with an Intel stay away from Celerons if you want more performance.

As far as RAM speeds go this will be decided by the CPU. The front side bus (fsb) speed is on the CPU will determine what kind of RAM you will need and looking up what your motherboard can support is also a good idea.
