cpu video card temps
Kind of a video card question, but more about temps so I posted it here.
I have a GeForce 7800GS AGP video card, and the software/drivers for it in the display settings have a 'core slowdown threshold' set at 115 C the GPU core temp is normally 50 C idle and around 58 C after hours of extreme gaming which is close to the same temps as my cpu which is about 48 C idle and 56 C should I change the core slowdown threshold temp of my video card, or is it even possible? seems pretty high, even 3 hours of B2 doesnt make the temp anywhere close the 115 C is my video card that much better at handling high temps then my cpu? also a question about my cpu temps, if I remember right even at the hottest point during the summer, and after 4-5 hours of extreme gaming I think the highest it got was 60C and 52 C idle my current heatsink is all copper with a 4000rpm fan on it, at one time I had an aluminum heatsink with a copper core and my temps were a few degrees cooler when idle, and a few degrees higher when under heavy load, but that was with a 2200rpm fan on it. so anyone who has an athlon xp cpu and a variable fan speed for there heatsink fan, how much of a difference in temps would it make to have a fan on there thats 4000rpm as opposed to 2200rpm I know I know, I really dont need to do that, but if it will lower the temp by more then 7 or 8 degrees, then its' worth doing to me I never overclock a new pc, but as it gets older and older, it will end up keeping me from having to upgrade my whole system I would love to upgrade to PCIexpress and a SLI motherboard, but thats more money then I'm going to have to spend on a computer for quite some time. |

well hmmm as long as your cpu doesnt pass 60c... i have a coolermaster that spins at 2500rpm. while i did have a thermaltake volcano 7 which ran at 5000 (sounded like a jet plane) its rpm got up to 5000rpm supposely.
the degree difference was about 5 degrees, if u get the zalman cpu fans, better, quieter so yea maybe u need a new one. how is the case designed? do u have fans blowing air in and out? if you have good current then you can drop a few degrees. i don't kno much about graphic cards but you can swap out their vga fans, but i'd ask around before you do anything. copper dispells heat better then aluminum in my expereince, waiting to get the 75dollar zalman and my new cpu so i can go oc it like crazy.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it - and yours ain't broke. Just keep the dust blown out of your heatsinks and fans.
