Optical drive's lifespan
I wanna know is there a direct relation between optical drive's reading speed and/or burning speed, with its lifespan? I mean if a such drive has an X and Y of max read and burn speed, and we always use it to read and burn in those max speeds, would it slighty decreasing the lifespan of the drive more, than if we use 1/2 X or 1/2 Y, or else slower?
Thx

In theory i would think so, kinda like a car always being pushed to its limit will have more wear then if not. Though i think its more of how much you use the drive, not necessarily its speed. General is about a few years...some less, its a toss of the coin really.

I've had drives last as little 10 days, and others last 5 or more years. There's no correlation that I can see.

Yeah mine has done more than it's fair share of work, however it is still good. More often than not it's the software, disks or files that fail me :P
