Overclock, pci bus and fsb:dram question
Hello all. I was attempting my first overclock last night but ran into some things and I wanted to check with you guys here before I go any further. First off, the system I'm playing with consists of the following:
ASUS A7V8x mobo AMD Athlon XP 2400+ (unlocked multiplier) 2 512mb ddr 333 modules 2.5, 3, 3, 7 (cpu-z lists one as xerox brand and the other is unidentified) In my bios, my fsb was set at 133 so the first thing I did was up that in 2 mhz increments till I hit 166 mhz (to hit my memory's ddr333 mark). As I raised the fsb, I lowered my cpu multiplier accordingly and ended up with 166 x 13 to give me a cpu freq. of 2158 mhz. Now when I run cpu-z, everything looks right however, under the memory tab, my memory is running at 199 mhz. I then see that the fsb:dram is set at fsb+33. I go back to the bios to change it, but for the life of me, I can't find this setting anywhere. Should this be in my bios or am I stuck with that fsb:dram? If I can not change the fsb:dram setting, can I run ddr333 at a higher bus then 166? The system appears to be stable however, I haven't ran any tests (memtest86, 3dmark etc...) to really confirm that it will remain stable. Also, my board doesn't have an AGP/PCI lock, am I risking my cards by raising the fsb? Thank you for any insights.

yes you can run your ram higher than it's stock rated speed....thats overclocking
yes... you can cause problems by raising the PCI/AGP frequency to high... If it's stabil... your doing good...
