Secondary Hard Disk is not recognised

Hi,

My colleague's hard disk start giving problems. She gets BSOD and each time she on her PC, it will go straight to the blue screen again...So I decided to take out the hard disk and connect it to another PC as a slave. But then, the Hard Disk is unallocated and so I reset the jumper to cable select and restarted the machine. And I was happy that I could at least see the drive in My Computer. But alas, my joy ended because when I double click the drive, it says " The drive is not formatted, do you want to reformat now?"

Then I was hoping that I could get her data back by running several recovery programs but my attempt seems fruitless. The recovery program could not recognise the hard disk and when I tried PC Inspector smart recovery program, it can detect the hard disk but then it said " The media is badly damaged and could not run in fast mode. Do you want to run in intensive mode or abort it? So I click Yes and the program started to scan the disk but it was very, very slow. I have waited for at least half an hour and it still says 8% and no files are found yet...

What was the problem? Does this problem occur because I set the jumper wrongly in the first place? Or is the hard disk has totally crashed?

Please help me...I am thinking how to explain to my colleague about this situation. I am sure she will not be happy.

Appreciate all your help. Thank you so much...

That's your answer right there. It's nothing you did, the drive failed all by itself. The drive must be replaced, your best bet to recover data is Spinrite. That's an $89 US program.
