Do you have the jumpers set correctlly and has the first drive been FDISK'd and Formatted? Do have the BIOS set to auto detect new drives?

Forgot to mention, this drive was working just fine in that system untill now. So everything is jumpered/set correctly, but not booting.

Did it crash before you lost the hard drive? Sounds like it has to be a hardware problem. Have you made any recent changes to the hardware configuration? You might try seeing if it boots with the bios fail safe settings.

It worked fine untill the last time i shut it down, just wouldn't boot again. If it's a hardware problem then why isn't it working with the other HD connected either? Didn't change the configuration or anything else. This is a very simple machine with nothing more than a HD and video card. I tried hooking up a 3.5" floppy drive to boot from a diskette but the drive is not detected before i get the HD FAILURE message. And yes i changed the boot sequence to A,C.
WHat options do i have left?

If you have access to another computer, Take your hard drive/jumper it as a slave/plug it into the machine as a IDE1 slave/Run FDISK andDelete all partitions/Run FDISK and Create a New Primary DOS partition and any other Partitions you want/Format the disk/Remove it/Jumper it as a Master/Install into you machine/Load the OS/STILL NO GO? >BUY NEW HARD DRIVE.

Tried a new cable, didn't work. I tried the HD in another computer, and at startup W98 automatically did a surface scan on it. I let it finish completely, then it booted into windows just fine. Did a restart to double-check things, and it worked just fine. Put the HD back in the old computer, DISK BOOT FAILURE again. Notice i couldn't boot from a 3.5 floppy either, i get the same error message. So if the drive is good, what isn't??

Tried another PS but it didn't help. Is there any way to test the motherboard besides putting in a new one? Or am i just too lazy to do it ..

Nothing is forever -- not even MoBo's

I work on computers a lot too. I've seen integrated IDE controllers fail when the Mobo continued to function normally before. You might try a plug-in controller (turning of the on-board in BIOS) or replace the MoBo.

Try looking here.

http://www.axiontech.com/cgi-local/p...dt=COPRULTRA66

just one example. If you go to www.pricewatch.com you can check other sources under the controller category or do a search on EIDE.

Yes, fitting a IDE Controller through your tel/dsl/cable line might be a bit difficult.
