Ram for a Dell machine
Hello everyone.
My room mate has a dell demension 8400 stock. He is upgrading the vid card and now wants to upgrade the ram while he is at it. His machine came stock with 1 gig of dell? ram. He likes this kit http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145527 Can he plug that kit in with the gig stick he already has and make 3 gig or will he need to get rid of that dell ram and just replace it with corsair for a total of 2 gig? sorry im a noob

According to Corsair's configurator, you have to use proprietary RAM such as:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...cegrabbermerch Also, buy here and you are garuanteed compatibility. Sorry, doesn't look that Dell takes generic RAM. Also, I take it the current set-up is 2 512MB sticks? 3 gigs is a waste, so you could just get 2 more 512MB sticks from Crucial .

Blueboy's right - get some Crucial. I use Ballistix - it rocks!
Your friend may want to focus on POWER SUPPLY issues more than RAM if he's going to upgrade the Vid card. |
