HD swap question, slave HD on new PC

Hey fellas,

I've been running this computer for about 3 years now. I have thousands of songs and files I do not want to lose.

I'm planning on building a new computer this August. Is it possible to use the HD currently in this computer and use it as a slave HD in my new computer to have access to all my files? Will there be compatibility issues?

Does anyone know the best method for me to save all my files and somehow transfer them to a new HD, when I build my new computer.

Thanks for your time,
Andrew

Get yourself an external hard drive enclosure and install a standard IDE hard drive of about 300Gb. glc recommends (and so do I) the Apricorn line of enclosures. Internally fan cooled and very well constructed. Also comes with EZ Gig software which is based on the Acronis product. Good for cloning and backups.

Like you said, you could always pop the drive in as slave and extract your music and data files to the new HDD.

Or do what Panama Red suggested. External HDDs come in handy sooner or later anyways.

You could also network the two systems and transfer the files over the network, but that might take a while though hehe.
