Mouse problem

Hi,

Many times when I have multiple browsers open and I go to close the current one by clicking on the "X" in the upper right corner of the screen the screen that I click on, along with the browser behind it also closes. This has been happening for a couple of months. I am running Windows XP Home with all the updates. I have a Logitech wheel mouse plugged into a USB port. I have removed and reinstalled the driver. I have gone into the control panel and clicked on the mouse icon and then changed the double click option to fast and also slow without effecting the problem. I have also tried a different mouse and experienced the same problem. I can't remember adding or removing any program and then having the problem appear. Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

Rob

When you say multiple browsers do you mean two different windows or browsers alltogether(IE/Netscape/Firefox)? If it is just multipe IE windows try another browser such as firefox to see if the issue still repeats itself. Since you've already tried another mouse I would say you can rule this out unless you want to try a Ps2 mouse. You can also try resetting your browser defaults under tools>internet options>advanced. Or repair IE by doing a reinstall. Since this sounds more like a browser issue I would look in the internet www forum.

restoring defaults

I would agree that restoring defaults in Internet Explorer might just do the trick for you. Unless I read it wrong, I dont see signs of an actual mouse problem.

I am using IE 6. Where will I find these defaults that you are referring to? Will restoring these defaults just effect the mouse or all the settings? Thanks for your help.

internet explorer

The instructions are in a link above

There is a button to reset. Than I would close and reopen Internet Explorer. It's just going to go back to the default settings for how Internet Explorer functions. I wouldn't worry about it. It's not going to remove any favorites you might have.

I am not worried about it removing settings as I am about it effecting certain secure websites I go to.

Also, I have noticed and forgot to mention that I use outlook express for email and at times when I close outlook express I experience the same problem.

Try uninstalling any 3rd party mouse drivers you have, and plug a standard mouse into the PS/2 port and see if the issue is still there. If you have single click to open enabled in your folder options, this *might* have something to do with it - just a guess.

Well, it's time to eat some crow. The mouse was already plugged into the PS/2 port. I just plugged it into the USB port to see if that will make a difference. I removed the driver before plugging it into the USB port (I turned power off before switching ports).

I have the IE icon in the task bar and click on it once to open IE. Sometimes when I click on it 2 browsers open. Also, sometimes in Outlook Express when I am in the address book and I am holding the control key down to highlight mulitple people I want to email, before I am finished highlighting all the names I want to include in the email the highlighted names will jump into the "To" window before I am finished.

Double click isset in the folder options. Thanks for your help.

That almost has to be a mechanical issue with the mouse. It sounds like the left button is "bouncing".
