RAM upgrade question
I have an Intel D845GRG motherboard in my system now
http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd...p4pmb_d845grg& and i'm looking to upgrade the RAM. From what I've found i know that it takes pc2100, non-ecc, unbuffered memory. I know i can probably use a little faster (pc2700) in it and it should just dumb it down to 2100 and work fine. my question is from the specs on my motherboard page, it says it supports up to 2gb max memory (1gb x 2 slots) but it hasnt been tested. i tried calling intel to see if that was dated material and if i could get an update but they wont help me due to it being an older board. has anyone had any problems maxing out on their Intel boards? also, from the specs can anyone tell me if High Density memory might work on my board? thank you in advance |

When you put RAM into a motherboard that won't accept it, the motherboard BIOS doesn't get even halfway through POST. It'll tell you that you have defective RAM when it's doing the RAM count, when actually it's just RAM that it doesn't like. Not entirely sure if the Crucial configurator will help, but it's worth a shot. I don't have the link to the configurator on hand right now, but hopefully someone will have it. HTH

actually i did find that on crucial but i'm still unclear if it my mobo will support high density or not.
http://www.crucial.com/store/listpar...45GRG&tabid=AM that is what crucial found as possible upgrades. can you take a look and see maybe? thank you! if i CAN go with high density i'd love to due to the cost difference but dont want to order something that isnt going to be compatible |

looking on my mobo's spec sheet: http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd...p4pmb_d845grg&
i see it supports single or doublesided DIMMS (PC200 and pc266)....does that indicate it supports high and low density (single = high / double = low density)? do i got that right? |

I would trust a configurator. I don't recommend just buying any old generic memory.

The only *cheap* 1gb DDR I can find specifically says for AMD only (it was $67) - so I would say you need to stick with low density - I see some offbrands at Newegg in the low $80's, Kingston and Corsair was around $90. The cheapest ram I could find in a configurator was about $103.

most likely thats what i'll end up doing but all i really wanted to know is if someone can tell me if the motherboard i have CAN support high density. i just wanted to know if its capable of it.
thank you for taking the time to research for me though. thats about the range i was finding for low as well |
