!~ 3.0 ghz Prescott Loud as Ballz!! ~!
Ive read the quit PC previous forums and have been all over looking for a good priced quit CPU fan for my Prescott 3.0 ... What do you Expert's recomend for a good priced ultra quiet CPU fan (preforably with blue Led's)
I Have This Fan Now http://www.thermaltake.com/coolers/spark/a1715.htm and It Seems to run almost Wide Open! I have my P4P800 E Deluxe auto controlling the speed.. Thanks in Advance

Most of the fancy LED fans are going to be loud. THe quite LED fans are going to be expensive. I personaly us a vanteck 80mm fan and it is quiet. The other thing you can look for is a thermalright heat pipe heat sink and a vantek fan and that will drop your temps and still be quiet

Yate loons d8sl's are a great chance if found. Some other good choices on quiet fans, would be some panaflo's, vantec, and nexus.
One thing that makes this tough is that stock heatsink fan is 70mm. Very hard to find. 80mm would be much more quieter and easier to find, but I am not sure you can fit one on there..its gonna even be harder getting one with blue l.e.ds...Problem is 70mm fans will need to just naturally run faster or to push enough air. I did find one or two, but I am seriously doubting its gonna be any less quieter then your current one. Was there anything wrong with the stock intel heatsink?

And...this new one is different how?
I really think you dont have any other choice here, I dont suggest you slow the fan down alot to as a solution because theres a reason why the fan has to be so loud, cooling a prescott is not the easiest thing to do... If its truely that loud for you, I dont think you have any other choice to get a new quieter heatsink, If your interested I can suggest a few...But I mean is it really *that* bad? |

How hot is your room? How hot is your computer? Is it just the cpu fan or also case fans/ hdd/ psu fans/ video card? If all of those are running because your computer is getting hot then it will be loud.
P.S. peekaboo

It is definetaly the CPU Fan. and yes its pretty dang loud.
On PC bootup the fan starts at the highest level ( i think 7) and every 5 sec. it slows down a level.. but it only slows down like 2 levels and thats dang loud! i can manually slow it down to a qiuet running level but the CPU gets hot. Id like to know what the best way to quiet this thing down would be.. relatively inexpensive.. Last edited by HTdude; 08-10-2006 at 07:59 PM. |

What does your case cooling setup look like? (ie, how many fans, where are they, exhaust/intake?, etc)
Also, if you haven't done so in a while, take a look at the heatsink. Is it full of dust?

Im telling you, the thermaltake unit is not any more efficient then the stock intel unit. This is a basic heatsink, do not expect cooling performance with quiet. Its that loud for a reason, your prescott isnt exactly a cool running cpu. And the fan thats on your current heatsink is 70MM, that pretty much cuts you off on any chance of a l.e.d quiet running fan. A normal 70mm fan is hard to find as it is, and they are usually of poor quality.
A small fan equates to a HIGHER noise level when pushing the same amount of air that a larger fan could do with half the noise level. Thats a fact. Make sure your case cooling is decent, and no I dont mean add 10 fans, I mean make sure those fans are strategically placed. There is NO other solution to this without spending any money, the only solution would be to get a better, more efficient heatsink that can run bigger fans and run them on low speeds. Which will take a bit of cash, if your interested, I can suggest some. BUT, what kinda noise is it exactly, is it a abnormal noise? Such as loud clicking, grinding? If so then thats the fan's issue, meaning its going bad or is bad. But if its just air and motor noise, well then thats normal. Last edited by Mr.Ferrari; 08-10-2006 at 09:36 PM. |

That zalman would be a good choice, pretty decent cooling and high quality, but if you can swing a few more bucks:
http://svc.com/xp-90-21.html One of the highest performing heatsinks for skt.478, only really bested by its copper brother and the Ultra 120. And on sale with a greatt price to boot. Albiet. You will have to buy your own fan, so expect that to add another 5 bucks. Another great heatsink, geared epecially towards silence and performance: http://svc.com/acfz-4.html comes with a fan and is one of the best choices in the bang/buck market. Its freezer 7 pro brother designed for skt775 is one of the most popular heatsink choices right now due to its high efficiency but low noise. 27bucks. This Zalman is a very quiet performer as well. It's easy to install, but requires cleaning every few months due to dust accumulation. In one machine I have the fanmate set to minimum and in another it's set to halfway.
If you choose this model, check out the prices elsewhere as it might be had for less, possibly with free shipping.

Something like this if your running stock and need low noise:
http://jab-tech.com/Arctic-Cooling-S...a-pr-2541.html <--only 14 bucks http://www.svc.com/acfz-4.html <---Also very low noise, little bigger, 27bucks http://jab-tech.com/Thermalright-XP-90-OEM-pr-2921.html <---Nice choice as you can pick your own 92mm fan which satisfies your noise levels. Good fan choice for uber silence would be this: http://jab-tech.com/Vantec-Stealth-F...m-pr-1729.html This one is also a nice choice for a fan if you do choose the xp90, as it comes with a little fan wire which can under volt it to 5v when silence is needed, and if you want the fan at full blast just remove the wire. http://www.petrastechshop.com/92zazmsicafa.html Last edited by Mr.Ferrari; 08-12-2006 at 02:08 PM. |

I bought one of these:
ZALMAN CNPS7700-CU for my computer because my stoc HS and fan were unbearable also. Now my computer is totally quiet, only way I can hear it is if I take off my panel and put my ear up to it. It has a 120mm fan on top so it moves alot of air and it eve decreased my hot temps by about 15C but this is the only one I have direct experience with, and I wont look for any others. It is big and heavy, they have an aluminum/copper model also that is a bit lighter..... hope it helps, and at 39 bucks it was a great investment for me, -roaming_builder |
