windows xp won't burn to cd-r
Windows XP will no longer burn a CD, when I try to burn files to a CD-R I just get a beep. The burning wizard doesn't even launch. My third party burning software will burn files to a CD no problem, so there is nothing wrong with the burner. Any ideas?

Is CD burning still enabled in the drive properties? Try unchecking it, rebooting, and rechecking it.

cd burning was enabled in the drive properties, I did as you suggested and it did not work. I checked the IMAPI CD-Burning Service and it is starting normally. I pulled the burner out and put it in another PC and it is working fine. It is only on this PC that Windows XP refuses to burn to. This one has me stumped.

What 3rd party burning software is installed? You may have a conflict. I believe the XP burning engine is Roxio-based.

I am using Sonic Record Now, it happily coexisited with the Windows XP burning functionality for the longest time, last night Windows XP just decided it would no longer burn to CD-R's (or at least that's when I noticed it). There are no errors in event viewer.

Just guessing here - did Sonic maybe just download an update?

no software updates, I even checked my WINASPI drivers and all is ok. I am due for my annual Windows reinstall soon anyway, hopefully that will solve the problem.
