New Plextor having trouble responding
It takes a while opening up my DVD/CD drive and when I play a CD-RW sometimes it will freeze when I want to click a song or during a song it will freeze and stop. The drive light just keeps flickering. It's random. Sometimes it plays well, sometimes it doesn't but it's always slow to open the drive and open a song. Plextor PX-750 drive is 2 weeks old. Problem started right away. My old Samsung responded faster. I have all memorex CDs that are scratchless and very new. The CD it froze on tonight I swear I had no problem playing it last week. I always have more than one application (bittorrent, browser, others) open at the same time and it's never caused problems. Not sure why the drive acts this way. When it happened tonight my CPU and RAM usage was extremely low.
It's also slow to play DVD+RWs. I use memorex, also. I've used memorex for 18 mths with great success. ABIT VA-10 FSB333 Athlon 2700 FSB333 (2.1 MHz) Windows XP SP2 768 MB RAM Radeon ATI 9500 Pro 350 W PS DirectX9 Monitor: 1280x960@85-100 Hz Fast AGP read and writes turned off. (otherwise the card crashes) Plextor PX-750: Write DVD+R 16x DVD+R DL 8x DVD-R 16x DVD-R DL 4x (6 & 8x -R by Firmware Upgrade) DVD+RW 8x DVD-RW 6x DVD-RAM 5x CD-R 40x CD-RW 24x Read DVD-ROM 16x CD-ROM 48x Last edited by rjc7394; 08-20-2006 at 10:09 PM. |

It seems like more and more folks are having trouble with the 750. Have you checked for a firmware update?

Have you checked the IDE controller properties to make sure DMA is enabled? When you replaced the drive, it probably went back to PIO.
