Flashing BIOS
I'm about to flash BIOS, I made a boot disk 862KB, the flash file and rom are 512KB. Would it be ok if I executed the flash file and updated the BIOS if I use them on my hard drive?
If not, can I delete any of these to make space (244 KB free)? Make a second diskette with the flash program and flash room only. Use the boot diskette to boot to dos then remove diskette and use second diskette.

the M863G (V1.5A). Mine is a M863G V5.1C, I didn't bother looking at the rev. Anyways, the site has no V5.1C, only V5.1A. Would this work? M863G (V1.5A): Old BIOS - Release 07/27/05 New BIOS - Release 08/27/04 Old BIOS Tag is <863GV5OC> New Tag M864G Error 9 - BIOS Tag is incorrect Enter = Continue Esc = Abort |

Don't use that BIOS update. You need to find the updates that are exactly for the board you have otherwise you risk killing the BIOS chip.

You also need a BARE bootdisk - you have a complete Win98SE startup disk there.
Put a blank floppy into the 98SE machine, open a command prompt, and type: format a: /s This will leave you about 1mb of free space on the disk. Copy the flasher and the bios file onto it. Let's get back to basics - WHY are you flashing your bios? |
