Optical Drive Troubleshooting help needed
I have put together a machine with the following specs:
Mobo: Abit K8N32X CPU: AMD 64 X2 4400+ GPU: XFX 7950 GX2 RAM: Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2 HDD1: WD740GD HDD2 & 3 (RAID 0): WD2500KS PSU: OCZ OCZ700GXSSLI Optical 1: Pioneer DVR-111D Optical 2: Samsung SH-S162L Optical 1 and 2 are installed on the same IDE cable, with Optical 1 set as the master and 2 as the slave. Both drives are recoginezed by the Bios correctly. I used Opticall 1 to install windows. No issues encountered. After getting windows running, Optical 1 no longer recognizes disks being put into it. Actually, to be more specific, when a disk is put into it the system will hang. When I open the drawer the system will come back. Optical 2 works fine. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. |

Have you tried putting them on different IDE channels? Sometimes drives just don't work together well. It's strange but it happens.

How are the drives jumpered, and what type of IDE cable are they on?
On a coarse 40 wire cable, drives should be jumpered master and slave On a fine 80 wire cable, they should be jumpered to Cable Select. FK

Drive 1 is set to Master
Drive 2 is set to Slave It's a 40 wire IDE cable. If it was the IDE channel, wouldn't that have been an issue regardless of Windows? I was able to install windows using Drive 1, just not since. |

Open your IDE controllers in device manager and make sure they are all set to DMA.

Hey,
Just to close the thread - What ended up working was switching the order of the drives. I moved the Samsung drive to be in the master position and the Pioneer drive in the slave. I have no idea why the Pioneer decided to work as the slave, but as long as they work, I won't complain. Thanks everyone! |
