Intel & Chipset revisited .. problem
Hi Intel proponents (Yeah HAL .. I know you're out there!):
Am trying to put together an intel 866 on an ASUS CUSL2-C motherboard, all goes fine with Win2K till the first boot, which never happens. Am left with a KMODE_EXCEPTION_... BSOD (driver problems). What do you think the problem is? Win2K not able to understand the Intel UltraATA? Am retrying with the oem drivers during setup. I swear I've never had half these probs with my Athlon setups But it could be my fault with the drivers.Nothing else on mobo, cheapie i740 grafix card and processor only. |

Hi mc2
Yeah am aware of KMODEs and troubleshooting and a host of other win2k colored screens, am just surprised that wIntel giving me so much probs. Anyone know for sure if supplying the ATA drivers will help or is this another excuse in futility. |

I wasn't trying to insult your intelligence
I hope you find the answer...I had that happen to me with a generic vid card once.

It's been a while since I've done a Win2K install on a CUSL2-C and it seems to me that I ran across that same crash and if my failing memory isn't failing today, it was a driver issue, but I honestly don't remember exactly what it was or what fixed it.

I had this similar problem once on both Win98 and Win2K - it turned out that in the bios one setting has to be changed away from default and this was LEGACY USB SUPPORT - try it..Disable this and I think it will work..this was on a CUSL2-C board.

Yeah it crashed again inspite of the UltraATA drivers. What a jib!
I'd appreciate any more thoughts. I know this is a mobo issue because the video card is an i740 that has worked on Win2k without issues. And there isnt anything else. RAM's been swapped just in case. TIA. |

FIXED!
Pretty simple actually I feel rather stupid...
In case anyone is interested... Boot to Safemode with command-prompt and run the Intel INFUpdate utility that can be downloaded from mobo site/Intel or from CD. Cheers. |

Hmmm... that fix doesn't sound familiar to anything I have done, but if it works, who cares, it works! I'll have to keep that in mind if I run across it again.
