missing floppy and usb drives in "My Computer" folder
Greetings all,
For the past two days I cannot find floppy drives or usb drives in my computer folder. All was working well untill two days ago. Have not changed anything on compuer. Just not able to find floppy or USB drives. Floppy drive found and works during boot. Can find the drives by typing driver letter in My Computer address bar. USB drives display in the "remove drive safely" bar and are removable. I have performed the steps as listed in Microsoft articles 812489 and 817196. However upper and lower filters as described in the articles are not present. Have uninstalled and reinstalled floppy drive several times. I have uninstalled Nero Burning room 7.0. I have Itunes installed. I am running Windows XP PRO with SP2 on Asus P5N32 sli mobo with 3 ghz P chip, nvid 7800 gtx video card, and 2 gigs of kingston ram. Hard drives are two WD raptor 74 gigs. (not configured for RAID) although Silicon Image raid link controller is installed. HP DVD muti drive and Pioneer DVD round out the system. Thanks in advance for any help. |

Guess what...this was real simple. Microsoft powertools TWEAKUI is installed on this computer. I had configured not to display my drives but HD's and DVD roms. Changed settings to allow display of all appropriate drives....like THE FLOPPY and USB drives. Viola all is well with the world...
Thanks all who had their time wasted reading my thread. |

USB Problems Too
I plugged an Ipod into my PC (Windows XP Pro) to recharge it. I do not have ITunes installed on this computer. Everything went fine with the Ipod but now none of my USB ports recognize my flash drive. "My Computer" does not open up, or any window BUT Device Manager recognizes that the Flash device is there, and working fine, but I can't open it up. The little icon for "Safely Remove Device" is there and works as usual. I just cannot access any of the files on the flash drive, b/c no window opens up and in Explorer it is not displayed.
Any ideas? This is defintely related to the Ipod, which still can be used on the USB ports!! |

wiggin, if you don't have TweakUI installed, this is a different problem and you should start your own thread. Thank you.
