Front usb ports

I cloned a hard drive over to an external hard drive using usb.

It took forever using the front usb ports. ( also, when plugged in, the computer said.. you can use faster usb ports on this machine.)

Sure enough, when using the rear usb ports, it cloned in a much faster time.

Questyion: Are the front usb ports (when plugged into usb1 or usb2 on the MOB) supposed to act as usb2.0 when the back usb ports run at 2.0 ? The MOB manual indicates that they are.
Thanks.

I guess it's possible that the front ports are 1.1 while the back ports are 2.0, not sure though. Have you checked in the BIOS in the usb settings to see if maybe you can choose which speed the ports run at in there? Maybe the front ports are set to the slower speed.

No chance to change anything in the BIOS. The MOB says the front ports are 2.0.

Oh well, just curious.. I can use the back ports for heavy transfers.
I do recall that GLC asked on one post if the person had the usb device plugged in to the front usb or the rear usb port.
Because of my problem, I thought I would ask if that made a difference.
Thanks

I have seen an Intel MB where the front usb ports were on a printed circuit bd. with a harness going back to the MB..it resulted in the same kind of situation..............
