Upgrading: Mix & Match Brands OK?
I'm planning on doubling my system memory from 1 GB to 2 GB shortly. Trouble is, I think my memory manufacturer is no longer a going concern, so I have to consider mixing and matching brands. The current memory loadout consists of 2x SimpleTech SVM/RB3200DDR/512 512 MB DDR400 PC3200 Memory Retail. The mobo configuration (it's an Asus P4P 800 Deluxe) is 4 slots which have to be installed 1-3/2-4. The current chips are in 1-3.
So, what level of "comparability" will my system tolerate? If I get, say, Kingston or Corsair memory that's also DDR400 PC3200, will it necessarily be compatible with the existing chips? |

It should be ok to go with a different brand. But it would probably be best to stick with the brand you have. Newegg has 512MB sticks: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820150345

Guess it's just my old vendor, then. That appears to be the safest bet. Thanks for the link.

Simple Tech does not manufacture the ram chips, they simply (pun not intended) assemble the modules. You should have no problem using a different brand of modules, just match up specs as close as you can.
