Smile GFX Card problem on A8N SLI - Please help :(

Hello, this is my first post to this forum, I have been reading through many of the posts and each time I am impressed by the advice given.

Unfortunately I have problem of my own, I have upgraded the system and Just installed on a A8N SLI mobo

AMD 64 X2 4800

2GB Kingston Value Ram

Other features that were previously installed and have a problem with are

ATI Radeon x850XT - PCI Express

Basically, I installed the new chip and ram, got everything back together on the board and powered it on, all the fans were on, the green mobo light was on and nothing appeared to be d/c from the board. However all I managed to get was a blank screen and then 1 long beep and 2 short beeps. From reading other posts, I gathered that this is GFX card related.

I chopped and changed the ram round, reset cmos and even bought a 500w power supply to see if that has anything to do with it but with no joy

I then borrowed a friend's normal PCI GFX card and tried that and "hey presto" it powered on to BIOS.

This then made me think it was the card so I got another PCI Express card and installed that.......once again, the same problem.

Im seriously baffled now, could it be the pci slot thats the problem? could it be two duff gfx cards? could there be something I need to do to the board as I have reset Cmos?

Id appreciate any help you can offer on this, thanks in advance

did you get the SAME model of pci express card or a diffrent one?

on your pci-express cards, did you plug in the 6 pin power to the back that they require and that the normal pci card prolly dosent?

if his card worked then you know it has to do with the cards/how the cards are installed or something along those lines

Where would this be? I tried an ASUS card and then a ATI card, both different. The ATI card has a connecting slot on board which I connected, is there somewhere else on the mobo that should be connected?

You need to connect the appropriate power connector to that jack on the card. If your power supply does not have one of those connectors, it probably is not a suitable power supply for that motherboard and card.

The card may have come with a power cable to connect 2 standard 4 pin connectors to the card if you don't have the correct 6 pin PCI-E connector.

What exact brand and model is your power supply? Do you have both the 24 pin main connector and the 4 pin 2x2 connector connected to the motherboard?

The original card I had, I connected to the board via the PSU cable. The second card didnt have a slot on the card for this to plug into.

Both times the fans are splinning on the cards aswell.

Brand and model of the power supply, please. Your pic doesn't show any video card at all.
