Need help with a MOBO.
Alright I'am upgrading my MOBO finally.
I plan to get this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131521 I want to know if my RAM will be work fine with it. (I read it does, but I just want to be 110% sure) 512MB DDR (1 × 512MB), 400MHz (PC3200) Dual-channel capable Expandable to 2GB I also have a few questions. 1.I am taking out my old mobo and replacing with this one. Will I be able to take out my CPU and other needed parts and use them with the MOBO above?(Anything that doesn't come with the MOBO I plan to get the parts from my old one and put them in the new one) 2.My friend is probably going to let me have his Geforce 5700 LE. He has a 300 PSU. I have a 350. But mine is a Emachines PSU, I heard they are bad. Do you think the video card will be fine? |

1) What CPU? RAM might work. Is the old computer an eMachine? What specific model?
Is there something wrong with the current mobo? That's not really the best of choices. You're much better off getting something with an intel chipset, rather than a SiS one.

My computer is found there. The mobo I have has no Agp or pci-e slots. Edit: I also read a guide and it said when replacing the CPU(when I take it out and put it into my new mobo) it says I need to apply thermal material. Can you buy it? The thing is. I am trying to keep this as cheap as we can possibly keep it. Last edited by Youatemycar; 10-05-2006 at 08:25 PM. |

OK, that's why I figured you were replacing it.
Problem is, the eMachine use a lot of proprietary (custom) parts...you may not be able to use the power supply or the case with a new motherboard. Not only that, the copy of Windows on the machine is tied to the Emachine motherboard. What's your budget? That'll help us give suggestions on what to do, so you can upgrade the video (I'm assuming you're wanting to play games...). |

I dont know. When I told my mom when we get the new mobo we might need to get a $50 ram she didn't sound to happy.
I'am totally fine with the video card I got now(assuming my friend gives it to me). It runs fear on 800X600 medium settings and HL2 on high-medium. Last edited by Youatemycar; 10-05-2006 at 09:05 PM. |

I'd add some RAM and buy a good PCI video card, and leave the rest alone. You are going to open PANDORA's BOX swapping mobos. That's Emachine's answer to a DELL E 310.

That comes out to around 100$, which we were expecting to spend that much. I would like to be able to play HL2 and other sources games along with WarRock, and possibly F.E.A.R combat(or whatever its called) Last edited by Youatemycar; 10-05-2006 at 09:24 PM. |

You bought the wrong computer to try to play games with.
Here is the best motherboard swap: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131029 Your ram is compatible. This board has an AGP slot and will work with the eMachines power supply. In order to continue using the preloaded eMachines Windows, you must do this. Before doing the upgrade, go into device manager and change the IDE controllers to "standard dual IDE". Shut down and do the swap. First time you boot back up, it will only let you in safe mode to activate by TELEPHONE. You must tell the Microsoft rep that you replaced a motherboard in an eMachines computer, you must read them the CD key from the case sticker, and also tell them the exact date you bought the computer and from which exact store. You will no longer be able to use the eMachines restore CD if anything happens. The other option is upgrade the ram on the existing board and use a strong PCI video card - the power supply *should* be able to handle it, but you still won't get the gaming performance you could get with a decent AGP card. |
