New computer error

Just purchased an ASUS P5W Deluxe mobo...all new components in the computer. Core2Duo E6700, 2gigs DDR2 800Mhz OCZ ram, ASUS Radeon X1900XTX vid card, Seagate 120 gig IDE hard drive...

BIOS starts up fine. Recognizes my hard drive, recognizes the RAM, the CPU, everything seems okay, then just quits when it begins to load windows. BIOS Revision is 1305 but I've tried booting with a P4 chip as well in case it was the C2D. Have no idea what's wrong...after the first reset when it gets to loading WinXP I get the 'start in safe mode' etc screen, no matter what option I choose the screen goes blank and everything resets again. BIOS does it's deal, then nothing. I've taken the hard drive OUT of the new computer, replaced it in the old and it boots up fine (I'm writing this message).

What am I missing...is it motherboard error or possibly the vid card isn't working properly? Mobo has no onboard video...don't know how to check if vid card is working properly or not. When the computer powers up the fan on the vid card does start spinning and it is properly connected to the PCIx16 slot.

Any help is much appreciated!!!

The installation of windows XP on that hard drive will not boot when installed in a computer that has a different motherboard. In order to get it to work with the new PC, you'll have to perform a repair install of Windows, by booting from the XP CD.

a little late on the tip but thought you would want to know there is another way when replacing a mobo:

Before you swap out the current motherboard go to device manager and select the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller and select your current storage controller. Right click, select update driver and select install from a list or specific location. Click don't search I will choose the driver to install and select the standard dual channel IDE controller.

This will prevent the inaccessible boot device blue screen.

With this method, booting the first time with the new motherboard should be done in Safe mode. XP will install the drivers it needs and you can install the new motherboard drivers. I would suggest accessing the motherboard web site to get the latest drivers and bios updates rather than use the CD media included with the MB. The CD is usually a couple of revisions behind the latest updates.
