CPU jumps to %100

Hi
i am puzzled by one of my PCs the CPU keeps jumping to %100 load and stays there ?, Intel P4 2.80GHz 1GB Ram XP Home SP2
Running processes 44, do i need to loose some processes ?, any advice appreciated, thank you, Fizz

What does your task manager say on the processes? That does not sound normal. Could have a trojan executing such as a spam zombie mail server?

Run an Ewido malware scan, and your virus scaning software. You may have to run some additional scans, AdAware SE and Spybot should help. Even if spyware isn't the source of your problem, having these programs on your computer and running them every once and a while is good practice.

Also look at your processes and see which one is using up the clock cycles. Often it's an "innocent" program.

Hi thank you all for answering, in task manager i find (cidaemon . exe) is using %98 CPU also the PC keeps freezing, how do i stop this program from using so much CPU power, please, Fizz.

i understand its a part of windows but i am not sure what to do about it ? as i am not that up on the interworkings of XP, appreciate any advice, Just not sure ?, Fizz.
