CAS Latency
Why is it that two of the pretty much same sticks of RAM, one sells for more? The only difference is the CAS Latency, Stick A) 4-4-4-12 , Stick B) 5-5-5-12. I would assume stick a would be pricier but insted stick b is. They are made by the same company and are the SAME stick, other than the latency. Why does the slower one, cost more?

What particular brand?
A lot probably has to do with supply and demand. If there's a demand spike for Stick B and not A, the prices will go up for B... Check prices in a month and the story will be different.

"Better" CAS would mean a lower number. Lower is always better in terms of latency. In this case it is the number of cycles it has to wait between operations. It is much more complicated than that and frankly over my head, but a lower number is better, not a higher one.

Check again...the cheaper one is the lower CAS.
Want an even cheaper alternative? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145590 Doesn't have the useless LEDs of the PRO series...same thing, no extra lights. |

Makes ya Kinda' scared to go for the chaper one, doesn't it.
 Loos like the better value is one with the lower Latency. Maybe an oversite on thier part.Is it possible the higher latency may allow the memory to actually run faster? By the books the lower latency should run faster(right?) but actual speeds may vary. But then again you would have to physically put the one set up against the other, to know that. |
