P5w64-ws Pro
took the plunge to conroe, decided to go with an E6400 with intent to OC -- unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it), my intel bad axe was the non-conroe revision, so i was initially going to go with the P5WDG2-WS PRO, but then the newer, more scalable P5W64-WS PRO caught my eye for slightly less money. it arrived today (the proc arrives tomorrow) and i was thumbing through the manual i noticed a bios setting for DRAM Throttling.
i have been trying to research this online and can't find much about it other than it apparently lowers the bus speed in order to prevent overheating? i think this is similar to cpu throttling which i remember mr. ferrari talking about a while back. anyway, i assume this is to be disabled along with EIST if i am to overclock? and what about CPU Internal Thermal Control? and what is Hyper Path3? should that be disabled? assembly will commence tomorrow just to swap things out and get it up and running. we'll see how it goes. hi, ill try to answer as best as I can. Dont 100 percent quote me..

For overclocking: Turn it OFF. It is known to cause instability at high fsb.

Unless he's planning on overclocking, can't he just load in OPTIMIZED DEFAULTS and let that take care of all of that for him? Then, if he does decide to overclock, he can unlock that stuff and have reference points.

![]() Otherwise absolutely, optimized defaults are fine. Just when you go into overclocking these options can cause instability. But if your not, then they actually help you.

i'm at 3GHz right now... haven't changed the timings on my RAM yet -- not really sure how exactly to go about that part
but my goal is to get my CPU and DRAM at 400 1:1, which i hope is attainable.i was comparing super pi scores with other overclocks i've seen with a similar setup and mine seems slow -- am i supposed to do two instances of super pi like prime95? any advice appreciated. http://seanarmenta.com/samples/3GHz-OC Last edited by glc; 10-28-2006 at 08:06 AM. |

First make sure you have everything optimized for Pi. I.E set your appearance to normal window's 98 style, turn off any wallpaper if there.
1. But no you don't run 2 instances of superpi unless your checking for stability. Only run one! 2. And while running Pi close down any other program's open. Including cpu-z and thermal monitors. This should give you a good pi time. But remember everybody has a different config. Any slight changes in ram or motherboard could make a WHOLE lotta difference in superpi. So keep that in mind when comparing scores. And last but not least, good job! By the way, I would use Intel TAT to double check temps. Last edited by Mr.Ferrari; 10-27-2006 at 03:57 PM. |

been busy -- but got it to 3.2GHz stable.
http://seanarmenta.com/samples/3200-OC.jpg i need to research more on memory tweaking. the stock timings on my ram is 5-5-5-12, but on cpu-z and in the BIOS it's 5-4-4-18. it did it automatically. all i did was set the BIOS to manual, but didn't change the memory settings. the scythe infinity really is a good heatsink, but i swapped out the included fan with a silverstone 110CFM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811999344. that improved the cooling greatly. i also changed all my 120 fans with the same silverstone, and a zalman 6 fan controller hooked up to all case, cpu, and vga fans. surprisingly it's not that loud when everything is running at max speed. |
