Where did my gigabytes go?

As above basically -- a few hours back I had 12GB free I was trying to download a file and I was told I never had enough space. Looking at the C:\ properties I had 1.52GB left, I uninstalled a lot, not much more also when I highlight all files in C:\ (and hidden) it differs (a lot)

Clean out your system restore points. Run Crap Cleaner.

Ran CCleaner, no diff. System Restore just doesn't restore -- tried a few different points.

I don't under stand why it says I've used 68GB, when I've only used 52GB. That's like 16GB down the drain.

I'm saying to CLEAN OUT system restore - not try to use it. Either use the advanced function of Disk Cleanup to get rid of all but the most recent restore point or disable it and get rid of all of them.

If this helps I took a spacemonger screenshot.

Yes, the likes of FEAR and UT2004 are pretty huge. However they SHOULD show when I look at the C:\ contents and not be hidden.

Yes I have Windows Adv Server 2000 in it, however the vitual hdd is in My documents. Funny thing is yesterday it was all fine and dandy and next minute I was out of space, all I remember doing was installing uTorrent and fixing some files, why it happened I don't know, maybe because it was Friday 13th? Dunno.

Fixed it - I am soooo silly -- how could I have not seen it!!! I set a program called "Folder Lock" to lock away 13.xGB of stuff, now when I unlock it. I get the full size but when it is locked it hides the used space.

Maybe a couple of gig off, but now I've solved the mystery I can put away that Windows XP disc. Thanks to you guys who came up with some good answers, thanks.
