Will a new HDD speed up my PC?
I have a PC that I recently built. I threw in a cheap Maxtor HDD at 133mb per second. If I put in a SATA HDD that supports 3gb/s will it speed up my PC?

Not that you would really notice unless the Maxtor is only a 2mb cache or 5400 rpm drive.

It has an 8 mb cache and spins at 7200 rpm. Since you can transfer more data faster with SATA is it better suited for a dual-core?

What are you wanting to do with the second drive? No, as glc alludes to, it will not blow your hair back. It will also depend on which SATA drive you want to compare the Maxtor too.

Not worth replacing the drive to get a minute speed increase. If the drive craps out or you have another use for it, then of course replace it with a SATA.
