Can you use a core 2 duo with an older MB?

I have an Intel MB that is about a year old now. I was thinking about upgrading my processor to a core 2 duo, but would have I to get a new motherboard that supports it as well? Or do they work with older MBs provided they have the 775 socket?

Negatory. It won't even take 8xx or 9xx Pentium D's.

You need a new motherboard and new ram, there are no PCI-E boards with Intel chipsets that support C2D that support standard DDR, they are all DDR2.

Thanks glc, that’s what I figured. I guess I will plan to just upgrade my MB, RAM and CPU all at once.
