Monitor Problem - I Think!

Hello People. I have a problem that has really got me stumped! My monitor goes into standby mode after typing a few words into Word 2003. I have no idea what the connection would be so I have no idea where to start looking for a solution. My monitor is an Iiyama E431S and my graphics card is a Radeon 7500 Series. My computer is kept very clean and I regularly update my hardware drivers.

Does anyone out there have any suggestion?

Thanks Cricket. My system is clean of spyware & virus's etc. I have changed various bits of hardware over the years so I suppose my computer is a bit of a hybrid now!
