Motherboard suggestions for C2D?
I'm looking to put together a new build but I'm a little lost in the motherboard compartment. I want to build Intel C2D and also have Geforce SLI. All the reviews I've read for C2D motherboards say that the Geforce boards and glitchy and that if you want to build C2D now you're better off going with an ATI board.
Is this true? If it's not do you have any suggestions for a mobo for me? If it is true do you still have suggestions? |

Go for the Asus boards with Intel Chipset - you won't regret it. They are still rock-solid and great performers, from the Intel 430TX to the latest 975 ones.

If you want SLI, wait a while till they get the 590 chipset issues solved. Otherwise, go for a single slot P965 board such as the Asus P5B or go Crossfire with a 975X such as the Asus P5W DH.
To me, SLI and Crossfire are just not necessary - a single strong video card will play anything out well enough and will cost you a lot less. |

I only plan on getting one video card, but I want SLI so I can add another card down the road when it calls for it. But then again I could just upgrade the single card I got. I'll look into the single slot boards.

If you want sli wait for the 680i/670 chipsets that will be released from nvidia soon. Otherwise the single slot plan is a great choice.

P965s are picky chipsets. I'm hearing about them only liking 1.8V RAM on just about every board available, including Asus. Have they done anything to address that issue yet ?

I dont think so...its been a problem in the past with some ram, needing voltages set in the bios because spd wasnt being reconized..
Only limit as far as voltage goes is to make sure your motherboard can supply the voltage for the ram. I know a few sticks run at 2.1v or higher, which is a problem with some 965 boards that cant provide that.. Last edited by Mr.Ferrari; 10-16-2006 at 05:59 PM. |

Yeah, because some of those C2D boards (I've noticed) aren't even offering the benifit of doing that. Most of the suppliers don't offer that info, which they should and a lot of the manufacturers aren't even offering minimum spec availability on their product info page. Maybe you or GLC could elbow them in the rib cage and get some data made accessible.
