Hi. I purchassed several weeks ago a brand new HP 8300 scanner. Seems to be a good quality and robust machine. My problem is that HP offer default settings for various tasks, but this is far from satisfactory.
Can somebody direct me to where I can find detailed and comprehensive instructions on how to setup the various scanning parameters for various tasks, e.g. scaning a hand-written document to be e-mailed and red on the recipient's screen. Same, but the document will be printed. Similar for scanning to fax, etc. , for various types of materials: photgraphs(b$w, color, documents with combined print and photos. I am experimenting a lot, but I fiel lost. Thanks, |

Hi barelij,
Welcome to PC Mechanic !! ![]() Experimenting is the best way to find out what meets your particular needs. The end use will also affect how you scan. For document storage, anywhere from 72 to 200 dpi is good, depending on how much detail you want to keep, or lose. Photo scan size also varies depening on what you want. 75 - 100 may be OK for email, but 300 is pretty minimum to print with, and 600 or higher is needed if you want to blow up the image.
