Dell Heat Sink 3X001 thermal pad
I just bought a used Dell heat sink 3X001 to prepare for upgrade of my CPU to P4 3.06Ghz Northwood. The heat sink has a green thermal pad that has a couple nicks. Should I use this heat sink with the existing thermal pad or try to remove it and apply Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound instead. Keep in mind this is a proprietary heat sink made for a Dell Dimension 8250. I think the thermal pad becomes viscous under heat and probably evens out the nicks. But, I'm not sure. Thoughts? No, I don't have any manuals.

Being that there's no warranty involved here, just remove it and use AS5. Scrape it off the best you can with a non-metallic scraper and use whatever solvent is necessary to remove the rest - I use pure acetone followed by 91% isopropyl alcohol.
