HELP ME PLEASE!!!!
I got new RAM and put them into my motherboard. Although when I put my hardware back together to boot it up. I turned on the power, and nothing happened, I tried turning it off but got shocked so I pulled the plug to stop all power going to the computer. The HDD and CPU fan work, I could hear them, but it seems the motherboard isn't working, I am using an ASUS, capable of PI 75Mhz to PI 233Mhz. I heard no beeps (because my internal speaker is broken, a wire came out of it). I saw nothing on the monitor. Because I got shocked, I came on to ask anyone of you to help me, I've been doing this for about 4 days, I'm 15 y/o. It worked 4 days ago, but yesterday it wouldn't. Back on track, is there a problem with my motherboard or my power supply? Or is it something else I should be aware of? Any replies would be greatly appreciated, I have only to turn to you. Thanking you, Timothy Pollock. |

Ok young man..
first that you got Shocked is a regular thing with "cheap"power supplies .If you can reverse the plug which goes into the MAIN WALL outlet either the one of the computer or the one of the monitor you will be more safe because those supplies are SWITCHING Voltage Regulators and have a tendency to LEAK and then also if the PHASE is reversed between Monitor and Computer then the user will be slightly shocked when touching the case - reversing the one or the other will correct this or you can also use a grounding from the computer case to your MAIN HOUSE GROUNDING - this would be by far the best and correct way .. Steps to take 1.Have the PC Speaker cable soldered back to the speaker or get a new one, very important because this will give you the error code sometimes needed when someone has booting problems.. 2.Check RAM if it is inserted proper - best way REMOVE it Clean it and REINSERT IT AGAIN. 3.Also check VGA ADAPTER that it is firmly pressed itno to the SLOT - as above Remove it Clean it and REINSERT IT make sure that you CAN NOT SEE THE GLODEN CONTACTS above the white PCI Slot and that the card is inserted EVENLY when lookig at the PCI from Horizontal level.! Remove any other add on cards and then power up again 4.Does the computer boot up NOW? if not go to next step 5.Remove the CMOS battery and then Start up the computer - actually now you should get some BEEPS or then the screen should come up if not then 6.Remove the new ADDED RAM and restart - does it work now ? If not then you might take everything out lay it on a flat table and use only the following components to try: Motherboard / CPU , RAM , VGA , Keyboard, PC Speaker - Strip it down to have it run only MOBO / CPU , PC speaker - Now you should get a LONG BEEP - this will tell you that the board is looking for RAM - Now shutdown and insert RAM - Your computer will need at least TWO STICKS to successfully use RAM after this you will get on medium long and three short Beeps - the computer is asking for the VGA - turn it off and plug the VGA in and turn it on again - you will get a similar sound to that one before this means that it is looking for the MONITOR -if this happens then place everythings back into the case - STEP by step and your computer will be just fine.. Otherwise post back and don't forget to let us know what kind of Beep you get out of the reparied PC SPEAKER. That's the best I can do for you at present time..hth
