I am looking to replace the nosey fan on a Intel® Desktop Board D865PERL. This computer is not over clocked.
Any suggestions! P.S. Where would I go to lookup such stuff?? Thanks!

Are you talking about a northbridge chipset heatsink/fan unit? I thought the D865PERL had a passive heatsink on the northbridge?
If you're talking about the CPU heatsink/fan unit, then how much do you want to spend? You can get a direct replacement from Intel. Just make sure you get the right one for your processor. Cricket

I am looking for a fan that will cool the CPU minus the noise. Nothing fancy. I don't have a problem with the price as long as the fan performs quietly. Thanks for the link Cricket! I will check it out. Cheers! |

If noise reduction is important to you then look at the Zalman heatsinks...their claim to fame is quiet running heatsink/fan units.

I can vouch for the cnps 9500 as being a great cooler. Dropped my temps from 43~ to 31~
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118003 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=373509 those 2 are cheaper and have no legs. |

I just installed the Zalman you suggested! It has to be one hundred times quieter than before! Thanks!

"There are times you could use a third or fourth hand. Just take time and be careful and don't over-tighten anything. Only other thing is its size. It's very tall and might not fit into some smaller cases." It also appears that there may be a weight issue with the 9500... Thanks Foosa for the links!

cdplayer, no problem on the links.
But, it's not that hard to install. The hardest part is having to take the motherboard out to put the back plate on. I did it alone in about 15-20mins. From complete removal of my motherbaord to power back up. Remember, it will take some force to get the retaining clip in place all the way, but its not that bad. edit* and they have no leds not legs...
