My DURON is HOT
Man, I never noticed my duron getting this hot
Right now, at idle this thing is at 134F yikes. My 1gig tbird runs 102 idle. the duron has a bad a$$ alpha cooler on it, I wonder why now it is running so hot. I don't recall it this hot before. Only changes I have made are set mu server up as stripe raid from mirror on kt7 raid board, but that should not make any difference. What is the overheat temp on a 700 duron? If I fry it i'll just have to get a tbird.

Overclock it, fry it, then upgrade to a 1GHz Duron
Or mail it to me. ![]() I was reading a review where they OC'd to 1.2GHz without any significant extra heat, and it was preforming just below a 1.4GHz@1.2GHz. Considering the Durons lack cache compared to an Athlon, that tells you when the Palomino core is released Intell will have some good competition. Logan |

I'm surprised it's still running at that. Mine used to lock up at 130.

It sounds like you are not getting a good heat transfer between the CPU and the heatsink. Did You use thermal compound when you installed it? Or has it became dislodged from the mount. Is the fan operating on the heatsink? Have you got a rats nest of wires blocking the case airflow or have you bundled them with tiewraps?

Do you have any case fans? I guess just underclock the CPU, that should help cool it.

Sometimes the Alphas don't sit right.
10 to 1 that's the problem. If you look at the bottom of it,you'll see a side which is recessed,so as to sit over the release arm of the socket. Make sure that it is riding over and the other recess is sitting over the higher end of the socket. You still have a way to go as far as frying it,but it should be running about 20- 30 degrees cooler! If this is the Alpha 6035,what I've found,is to set the clip one row off center.(The end opposite the recess for the socket lever)This tends to force it to sit right. Room temperature also plays a big roll. Currently running a Duron 800@1000(1.85v)Room temp is 80f. cpu temp is 105- 110f(loaded) |

That was it!
Looking at my cooler, I took it off and put some more artic silver on it, still ran HOT. Took it back off, and looked at where the cpu sits on the cooler, and I could tell the cooler was NOT sitting flat. weird because this cooler has been running great for months, I guess that cheaply made clip that comes with the pep66t can not hold up, so I put a "stock cooler on it and it's running fine at 102F. whew, well, at least it turned out to be something I did not have to spend mo' money on. Thanks all... |
