Boom Story of 2 CDROMS and WIN2K Sad Story!!!

Just brought a new CDRW and installed it on a seperate IDE channel (secondary Master). Set the Jumper on the CDRW to Master.
Moved my old CDROM which was a primary Slave to Secondary Slave and made sure that the Jumper on the back of it is Slave.

So Far so good? right?

boot up my machine and BIOS finds the correct CD devices,
Primary Master : Maxtor hardrive whtever...
Secondary Master : LiteOn CDRW ..whtever
Secondary Slave: NEC CDROM

boot up to windows 2000 without any error messages and go to my computer and can see BOTH the devices.
Now I insert a CD in to the NEC CDROM, nothing happens, !!! ZIP NADA
No light, no nothing, and after 10 secs or so, the CDROM spits out the CD.

I insert a CD into the CDRW, its works beautiful!!

So, me thinks, that maybe cable is bad, I go rush out to BestBuy and get a New cable. Connect it and same thing!!! same problem.

So, again, me thinks, maybe CDROM (NEC) is bad, so i switch the Devices and also change the jumper setting. Same problem, now it reads the CDROM (NEC) and not the CDRW.

Now me does not know what else to think
I have lastest updates to Bios, service pack 2 on win2k, CD device drivers are up to date!

WHT SHOULD I DO!!!!!!?
please help

thanks

johnny

Might be worth it to try the cable select jumper on each of the drives.

In the bios Did you enable the Secondary SLAVE controller to CDROM or is it DISABLED? Some Mobo's have some very strange functions I have on like this is from Iwill - I got a WD drive it wll NOT be SEEN in the bios even soleily on the cable or soleily on the Computer - but as soon the computer has booted windows the DRIVE WILL SHOW and WILL WORK also - no errors so far.

The Bios actually should state - FOUND CDROM or alike instead of Secondary master Secondary slave..

Try to set the bios to CDROM for the Secondary IDE controller may this helps and also MAY if you DISABLE it at all - some Bioses will still be able to find the CDROM, and there are many of this kind.

What's about Drive letters in Windows Control panel >device manager >CDrom's?
