Urgent Help With Joining Hard Drives?!

Hi,

I have a 40 GB (IDE) hard drive in my pc and my mobo does support RAID, but basically i needed to extend my hard drive space so i bought a 160gb (SATA) Western Digital and I want to fuse both hard drives together to make, in effect, 200GB of space. I have been told that I can fuse the two together using RAID but I dont know how to do it or what RAID exactly is, could someone tell me how to fuse the two hard drives together and what RAID is, and how it would help me; also, would i have 2 clear the 40gb hard drive that everything that my pc has (operating system, programmes etc.) for the hard drives to be joined?

Thanks

To make one big combined drive I believe you need to do RAID 5 which uses 3 or more identical drives. Raid 0 requires identical drives also.
Just add the second drive, you still will have access to it.

why do you want to fuse the two together? wouldn't it make more sense to keep the two drive seperately...especially if this is for just a home computer. incase one hd crash the other is still there. just a thought.

In "My Computer" it will be listed after your old HD and the optical drives with a new drive letter.
